I recently found this palette at TJ Maxx and I wanted to share with all of you my thoughts! This is my only Stila eyeshadow palette so I am not familiar with how their other ones perform so this is just my impressions based on this palette alone. This palette did retail for $49 however I bought it for only $7.99! It does seem like this palette has been discontinued but it is still available through some retailers.
This palette includes 12 eyeshadows which are all shimmer / glitter shades. Right off the bat, this is a palette that you will most likely have to incorporate with another palette. If you are looking for a single eyeshadow palette to use everyday, this probably isn’t the one for you.
On the box, Stila said that this palette was “inspired by the spiritual notion that true beauty is revealed from within.” Which is a pretty nice inspiration, I don’t think it has anything to do with the shade selection but I really enjoy when a brand shares their inspiration for a product. Also on the inside of the palette, the clear film has a quote that says “The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection. -Michelangelo.” Is this palette perfection though, let’s find out!
Now for the shades! Here are the top two rows:
Pink Diamond – This is a beautiful light champagne shimmer shade. This is a nice shade to use by itself for a very simple look.
Topaz – This is a deeper, brown champagne shimmer shade. This one can also look nice over a deep brown matte shade or even by itself.
Garnet – This is a medium brown shade. It looks super shimmery in the pan but swatched out and on the eye it is almost matte with a slight bit of glitter in it.
Rose Quartz – This is a light baby pink, shimmer shade. I really like this shade, it is really beautiful.
Aquamarine – This is one of the more unique shades to the palette. It is a bright aqua shade. Similarly to Garnet, it almost looks matte with just a bit of glitter in it.
Emerald – This is an emerald glitter shade. As you can tell from the picture though, it doesn’t really swatch that well. It is even hard to tell that it is supposed to be an emerald color at all.
And here are the bottom two rows:
Amethyst – This is the other shade that is super unique. It is a lilac glittery shade. I really like this shade, it is so simple.
Tanzanite – This is supposed to be a purple shade but it does not swatch well at all! I tried going over the swatch several times and I could never build up the color. I haven’t worn this shade on my eyes but I don’t think I will reach for it anytime soon.
Midnight Quartz – This is a even deeper purple but it also didn’t swatch well at all either. There was no color pay off, it does not look enticing at all.
Moonstone – This one is a beautiful white, icy shimmer shade! This is one of the stand out shade, quality wise, in this palette. It is extremely pigmented and beautiful on the inner corner of the eye or as a brow bone highlight.
Sapphire – This is a sapphire blue glitter shade. Although this is one of the deeper shades of the palette, it actually looks pretty decent.
Black Diamond – This is a grey / black share with silver shimmer shade. This is another nice one in the palette. Its pretty unique.
Although this shade is all shimmers, I did manage to put a full look together. I really liked the way it turned out because it was pretty muted and pretty and super easy to apply and blend.
I used Moonstone all over the lid, on the inner corner and on the brow bone. I then took Rose Quartz all over the lid and blended that over Moonstone. And then lastly, I took Garnet in the outer v of my eye just to add some dimension.
Over all, I think you can create a lot of beautiful looks from this palette and even play with some color. I don’t think ALL the shades are high quality but some of them are really nice and I will keep using them. This palette is definitely NOT worth $49, I am really happy that I got it for so cheap.
Well, that is it for me today! Do you already own this palette? What are you thoughts on it? I would love to know!
